The scientific conference entitled ‘The act on insurance distribution — interpretation and implementation of the act’ was organised by PIU together with the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw. The conference participants included: prof. Ewa Bagińska, PhD at UG, prof. M. Orlicki, PhD at UAM, prof. Magdalena Szczepańska, PhD at UW, Mariusz Fras, PhD at UŚ, Jakub Pokrzywniak, PhD at UAM, Jakub Nawracała, legal adviser, Monika Szaraniec, PhD at UEK, Michał Ziemiak, PhD at UMK, Jan Byrski, PhD at UEK and Katarzyna Przewalska — Director of the Department of Development of the Financial Market at the Ministry of Finance and Ewa Krajewska, deputy director of the Department of Insurance Licnsces at the Office of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority.
The Conference programme included three panels:
• General clause of compliance of the agreement with the customer’s requirements and needs
• The process of concluding the insurance agreement in the light of the act on insurance distribution
• Preventing conflicts of interest in the act on insurance distribution
and an additional topic — Processing of personal data by an insurance intermediary.
In addition, a brief lecture on implementing acts to the act on insurance distribution was delivered by Katarzyna Przewalska, while Ewa Krajewska from the Office of Polish Financial Supervision Authority presented a lecture on the registry of agents. The conference provided an opportunity to gain knowledge and exchange views and first experiences on the interpretation of the law. The lectures addressed sensitive issues and interpretative difficulties surrounding the new law. The event attracted a great deal of interest from insurance companies. More than 200 people participated in the conference. Panel speakers wrote articles on the subjects raised at the conference, which will be published in Wiadomości Ubezpieczeniowe.
