In the 31st Edition of Warsaw Marathon, the runners for the first time could compete for the prizes in the category of insurance companies. The PIU Running Cup 2008, organised by the Polish Insurance Association, enabled the employees of insurance companies to represent their companies and compete in a relay race (in the scope of the programme “Running-Friendly Company”) organised a day before the main race, as well as take part in the main race.
The winners of the PIU Running Cup in the 31st Warsaw Marthon were the PZU 4 team and, in the individual race, Piotr Żach from the Generali & Friends team. Second place in the relay race was the Generali Running Team & Friends, while the third place – PZU 2 team. In the individual race, the second place was taken by Andrzej Kolisz from PZU, and the third place was Tomasz Świdziński from Compensa. On Saturday, 26th September, right after the relay race for the insurers, the winners received the prizes from Jan Grzegorz Prądzyński, the President of the Polish Insurance Association, and Andrzej Piekarczyk, the President of the Management Board of the Generali Group which have been cooperating with the Warsaw Marathon Foundation for several years.
10 teams, composed of six people each, took part in the first relay race for the insurers. PZU and Generali were represented by four teams each (including one team composed of the friends of Generali); two other teams were the Ergo Hestia team (we thank the runners for coming a few hundred kilometres just to participate in the contest!) and the PIU Insurance Team, composed of representatives of several insurance companies. Forty contestants took part in the individual race for insurers. “Dziennik Ubezpieczeniowy” daily was a sponsor of the event.
The Polish Insurance Association already started the preparations for the next year’s edition of the Warsaw Marathon; we hope that next year, even more insurers will participate in the event.
In June of 2008, the Polish Insurance Association organized a six-a-side indoor football tournament for the insurance companies – PIU Cup 2008. It was a very successful debut; 16 teams took part in the tournament and the final winner was the Aviva Commercial Union team.
After an exciting final match, the Aviva Commercial Union team defeated the Allianz Polska team 4:3. Third place was taken by Ergo Hestia, fourth place by Generali. Krzysztof Kaczor of Allianz Polska became the top scorer of the tournament, after scoring 16 goals. Paweł Majewski of Aviva Commercial Union was declared the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
